Luxx at Silom Bangkok Boutique Hotel Review

Luxx at Silom Bangkok Boutique Hotel Review

Is the Luxx at Silom a Bangkok boutique hotel or more a bed and breakfast? Offering only 13 bedrooms past guests have had differing opinions. In our view Luxx at Silom is a small, stylish Bangkok boutique hotel (one of the smallest there is) and it proves that size isn’t everything; small can be effective, just as enjoyable and just as satisfying!

So small is Luxx that a stay here is more like having your own private apartment in this vibrant city. There is no pool, gym or restaurant within the hotel. There are no crowds of people in the lobby. Instead what you have is a sleek hideaway in the epicenter of Bangkok.

By day the pavements throng with the business attired Bangkok elite but at sundown the area goes through a complete metamorphosis; urban grays are brought to life with neon lights, bustling night markets emerge, business garb becomes casual chic and the zone ramps-up for the nightly party.

You can choose to immerse yourself in the hubbub of Silom or retreat to your room at the Luxx which, owing to its size, is the type of place that allows you to impose yourself on it rather than the other way round, the latter being the case in so many larger hotels.

Luxx at Silom is a perfect Bangkok base camp from which to explore the City of Angels. The superbly designed rooms are complimented by very accommodating staff; they are not “in your face” as could easily happen in a hotel of this size but instead the black-uniformed staff here maintain a discreet but friendly distance.

Scamper out of the front door to Niu’s Restaurants which is a five minute walk away where you are guaranteed a fabulous meal after which you can migrate downstairs to the sublime jazz bar. Just 15 minutes away is the celebrated Sky Bar at Lebua State Tower. No shorts or flip flops here but the views from this sky bar are unsurpassed.

Luxx at Silom is a fabulous place to stay and comes highly recommended if you are seeking a splash of luxury with a mid-range price tag and without big hotel ostentation.

Accommodation

Luxx at Silom is a five-storey shop house that has been converted into a boutique hotel. Within the walls are a variety of rooms, studios and suites. Free WiFi is available throughout the property and each room has a flat screen TVs and a CD / DVD player (suites have LCD TVs and i-pod station), coffee and tea making facilities, a small pantry and views over the courtyard below which is distinctly “Zen”.

The ambiance in this urban hideaway is modern, minimalist, stylish with daubes of designer touches at every turn. The signature Luxx wooden bathtub and heavenly bed are features found in all room types.

Guest Rooms
  • Compact S
  • Compact L
  • Studio
  • Suite

Each of the Suites offers a separate living area with sofa, a small pantry and a separate bedroom. With 50sqm of living space the Suites offer plenty of room for you to make yourself at home whether you are visiting on business or leisure.

The Studio’s are shrunk to 34sqm but still retain all the mod cons to keep you comfy. Run a bath, slide back the doors and recline whilst watching a DVD. The Compact L and Compact S rooms are 24sqm and 20sqm respectively. The former has a small balcony and both room types don’t dip out on in-room facilities and amenities. The Compact L and Compact S rooms are a great choice if you need somewhere to stay in Bangkok that is clean, comfortable, well designed and very affordable.

A stay at Luxx Silom really is more akin to being in your own private apartment than a hotel; small, intimate, homely (in a bachelor pad sort of way) and right in the heart of Bangkok.

Please note that there is no elevator / lift at Luxx Silom

Location

The Luxx at Silom is, as the name suggests, just a stones-throw from Silom Road and within very easy walking distance of Chong Nongsi Skytrain station.

From here you are two stops away from the Chao Phraya River (Saphan Taksin Skytrain Station) where you can connect to ferry services, hire long tails and so forth. Going in the other direction you are one stop away from Sala Daeng BTS Station which delivers you into the heart of Silom Road; Bangkok’s business nerve centre by day and its most renowned entertainment zone by night (think Patpong). Interconnecting with the subway (MRT) network is also easy from Sala Daeng BTS Station.

If you are looking for a Bangkok boutique hotel that is right in the thick of the action with shopping that spans plush shopping malls to street markets by day, 24 hours food from some of Bangkok’s smartest restaurants to the most celebrated street vendors and an entertainment zone with night markets, bars and plenty more then Luxx at Silom could be the place for you.
